Former Gorin Church

A national important cultural property located on a small fishing port

The former Gorin Church was a restoration of the building of Hamawaki Church which was built in 1881 and the second oldest wooden church, after Oura Church, among those existing in Nagasaki Prefecture. In 1931, Hamawaki Church was reconstructed to be a new one with a larger space. The dismantled materials were used, without any change, for the construction of a church in the Gorin district. The restored church, designated as a national cultural asset, is a rare combination of Japanese and Western construction, which has an outer appearance of a traditional Japanese house and an interior consisted of a nave with two aisles and boarded Rib Vault ceilings.
